Behind the Booth: Community, Creativity, and Crafting Connections at the First New Phoenix Art Fair

There’s something magical about bringing artists and art lovers together under the open sky, and the inaugural New Phoenix Art Fair nailed it. For their very first time hosting an event like this, the organization was seamless.

The setup was brilliant: combining the main art show with live pottery demonstrations gave visitors the perfect flow. People could wander inside the studio to watch the wheel spinning, then head outdoors to explore the rows of creative booths. That energy kept the crowd moving, curious, and engaged all day long.

Connection Over Craft

While selling work is always a goal, events like this remind me that my favorite part of the job is simply talking to people. I loved catching up with old classmates, meeting new creatives, and learning what sparks people’s curiosity.

The community vibe was unmatched, especially right next door. My booth neighbor started sewing during the pandemic after discovering her grandmother’s old sewing machine. Her energy was infectious, and hearing her talk about her journey and craft was genuinely inspiring. It's those unexpected stories and shared tidbits of wisdom that make these weekends so rewarding.

The Booth Hits: Interactive Art & Husband-Approved Pillows

Over at Booth 16, we had two major highlights:

  • The Kids' Art Corner: I set up an interactive activity where kids could draw and integrate yarn into their pieces. Seeing their hands-on creativity unfold was a blast—they jumped right in!

  • The Neck Pillow Takeover: I’m thrilled to report the neck pillows were a massive hit! The funniest recurring trend of the day? Wives physically dragging their husbands over, making them try the pillows on, and buying them on the spot. Comfort speaks for itself!

It Takes a Village

An event this successful doesn't happen without a solid support system, and I have a few vital shoutouts:

  • To my husband: Thank you for helping me pack the car late into the night, and for waking up at the crack of dawn on a Saturday to help run things all day.

  • To my daughter: Thank you for sacrificing your Saturday morning to keep the booth running smoothly!

  • To my booth mate: Thanks so much for the support throughout the day.

To everyone who stopped by Booth 16 to say hello, test out a pillow, or support my work—thank you for making the first New Phoenix Art Fair a great experience.
